Silver Jewellery for Beginners

A basic course in designing and making silver jewellery. Learn fundamental skills such as sawing, filing, soldering, polishing and saw piercing.

Students with previous experience are welcome to join this course and work at their own pace on their individual projects.

Your first project will be a basic ring band where you will learn how to:
Measure and calculate how much silver you will be using,
Saw and file precious metal,
Anneal your metal to make it pliable,
Stamp to create texture,
Hammer into shape on a ring mandrel
Emery and polish to achieve your desired finish.

The second project allows you to use your new skills to create an original design. Use saw piercing techniques to create earrings, a pendant or brooch in consultation with your teacher.

Material costs are included in course fee. Please note that larger projects requiring more silver, may incur extra costs.

Pen and note pad.
All other requirements are supplied by the College, including all tools required for your project.
For safety reasons it is important to ensure you wear closed toe shoes and medium to long hair is tied back for each class.*
