Sewing Machine Skills

Get the most efficient use out of your sewing machine in this one day workshop. Starting with the basics of sewing a straight line you will progress to make a simple bodice top, which includes straight seams, darts, inserting a zipper, sleeves and facing to finish the work.

Bring your sewing machine, calico fabric and a few simple notions - by the end of the day you will have made a simple bodice top with a sleeve, centre back zipper and neck facing, which will give you the confidence to take on more sewing projects.

Please bring the following to the session:
Sewing Machine (optional) - it is preferable to learn on your own machine. College machines are available to use; however, you may need to share with other students.
manual for your sewing machine (optional -see above)
1m calico
1 reel of thread
Dressmakers pins (long) & hand sewing needles
scissors, large for cutting fabric
Tape measure
Zipper 15 – 20cm & a zipper foot to fit your sewing machine

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students will have:
Developed their confidence in the use their own sewing machine
Learned to thread and use a number of basic stitches
Completed a simple top.
