Lace Making (Tatting)


Lace-making is an ancient craft that has never gone out of fashion. In this hands-on workshop, learn the ancient lace making method of ‘punto ad ago’, or needle tatting, to make your own textiles that can become family heirlooms.

Perfect for absolute beginners the course covers materials, tools, basic stitch formations, history and contemporary applications. At the end of the course you will be able to confidently produce 3 different stitch combination to form lace edging.

Your course fee includes a lacemaking kit to make the projects in the course and continue afterwards.

Week 1 – Introduction to materials and brief history of lacemaking, with. How to hold the needle and produce simple ring patterns.
Week 2 - Use simple chains from week 1, add piccots to form pattern 1.
Week 3 – Explore other combinations of chains and piccots to form two more patterns
Week 4 – Perfection of three patterns covered in previous weeks. Application of lace edging to either a pillow case or towel. Reading patterns.
Week 5 – Conclusion of projects, review of pattern reading skills for future projects.
