Crochet for Beginners

How many times during our busy lives, do we yearn for something to help us slow down? What if you could and be
creative at the same time. Enjoy a mindful, stress-free activity in the company of other likeminded people. Unlock your inner designer and craft yourself something fun and uniquely yours. For centuries crochet has been around helping people socialise while creating gorgeous items. It could be anything from designing your own homewares, cuddly friends for the kids, jewelry, fashionable wearables suitable for everyone and sometimes just creating something for fun!

This is a course run over 3 weeks. It aims to introduce the various concepts of crochet as outlined below:
Knowing your yarn (cotton, wool, acrylic etc) and yarn classifications
Knowing crochet hooks, hook materials and sizes and how to hold a hook.
What is tension/gauge when creating fabric
Understanding how to start a chain in crochet
Learning the basic crochet stiches with symbols, single crochet, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet, slip stitch etc
Learning how to make a granny square
Interpreting simple patterns, deciphering stitch key, symbols
Working with colors and introduction to the colour wheel concept
Changing colors, learning to hide the tail of the last color in the rows.
Make a granny square bag
Learning to make a circle in crochet
Increasing and decreasing your crochet circle
Introduction to mandalas
Introduction to useful online resources
Finishing off your piece, darning in ends,
Miracles of blocking
Care of crochet fabric
Expose participants to crochet concepts such as lace work in crochet, Tunisian crochet, Irish crochet, tubular crochet etc

Participants will be able to utilize the skills learned during the sessions to create a crochet granny square bag. The basic
concepts learnt in class will also enable participants to develop multiple ideas for other interesting projects.

Learning Outcomes
Learn how to hold the crochet hook and yarn and
start a chain
Learn Single crochet, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet
Learn square and circular crochet, plus introduction to increasing and decreasing stitches
Learn the symbols used on patterns and read simple patterns
Apply new skills to create a new project.

The following will be provided as a starter pack:
1x Crochet hook
Medium weight yarn (8ply)
Each participant is provided with course material, instructions, diagrams etc
