Acting for Camera


Acting for Camera at City East Community College is a very hands-on course designed to teach the fundamental precepts of the screen acting craft in a fun and enjoyable way. Through improvisation, warm ups, voice work and a whole raft of activities that support the goal of inspired screen performance develop the critical principles of the acting craft including body, breathing and voice.

Learn the difference between screen and stage performance as you explore ways to build and perform a character for the screen. Gain an understanding of the basic grammar of film that pertains to your performance as you deconstruct and rework famous scenes from great films on camera, as well as original scenes,

Discover how casting agent systems and processes work and produce some clips of your work ready for a show reel.

Your tutor Nicholas Flanagan graduated from the Acting Course at NIDA in 1982 and has extensive acting credits as well as having lectured in writing and acting for NIDA, VCA and WAAPA. He is also a writer, director, producer, composer and teacher and recipient of a Creative fellowship (writing) from the Western Australian Government, the highest and most prestigious arts award in that state.

He has assisted many media executives, television personalities and CEO’s to better craft and deploy their stories and presentation in Australia and around the world. His unique blend of artistic and business experience enables him and his associates to fast track results and help people tell influential stories that achieve results.

Active in the arts as well as running Nicholas Flanagan Consulting, Nicholas has written drama for television, his plays have been published and produced around Australia, and his Communication Excellence Seminars are run nationally and internationally for top tier Australian businesses (including Macquarie Capital and Boston Consulting Group),

Also, a composer, songwriter and librettist Nicholas’s musical, The Chaos Fairy and the Wizard was recently produced for the Monkey Baa Theatre at the Lend Lease Theatre in Darling Harbour.
