This basic computer training course aims to provide you with the skills to perform everyday tasks confidently.

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • Use the Mouse
  • Start & Exit Windows correctly
  • Identify key features of the Windows desktop
  • Start and quit from a program
  • Move, re-size and arrange windows
  • Save, open and close documents
  • Use the on-line Help
  • Manage files and folders with Explorer

PREREQUISITES
This is a beginners class and no prior computer experience is required.

COURSE CONTENT

Learning the Basics
Work with Windows Features. Start Windows. Explore the Windows Desktop. Use the Mouse. Close a Window. Explore the Start Menu. Open My Computer. Work with Files & Folders. Use Menu Commands.

Exploring Window Features
Work with Window Sizes. Minimize & Restore Windows. Restore Down & Maximize Windows. Move a Window. Change a Window’s Size & Shape. Scroll Open Windows.

Using Programs
Open a Program from the Start Menu. Work with Text. Use a Dialog Box. Save a File to My Documents. Close a Program. Open a File from My Documents.

Working with Views & Toolbars
Use Views & Toolbars. Display & Hide the Status Bar. Hide& Display a Window Toolbar. Use the Back & Forward Buttons. Change Views in a Window. Sort a Folder in the Details View. Add Columns to the Details View. Arrange & Group Icons. Change Folder Options.

Using the Desktop & Recycle Bin
Create a Folder on the Desktop. Rename an Item on the Desktop. Use Cut/Copy & Paste. Send a Shortcut to the Desktop. Arrange Items on the Desktop. Delete Desktop Items. Create a Folder on the Desktop. Rename an Item on the Desktop. Use Cut/Copy & Paste. Send a Shortcut to the Desktop. Arrange Items on the Desktop. Delete Desktop Items.
