This innovative and participatory course covers all aspects of sustainable living: energy, water, food, biodiversity, the healthy home, transport, waste and importantly, our health. We explore how we can take realistic initiatives and set achievable goals to deal locally with global issues such as global warming, peak oil, food security, water deficiency and others (www.livingsmart.org.au).
You will meet inspiring guest speakers who will make use of the sustainability displays at the Randwick Community Centre, such as the Water Wise Trail, rainwater tanks, solar energy systems, energy-reducing building fittings and the PIG — the Permaculture Interpretive Garden. We also visit the sustainability house – Barrett House and explore Randwick Council’s Nursery.
The Living Smart program was developed by The Meeting Place Community Centre, City of Fremantle, Murdoch University and Southern Metropolitan Regional Council. The administration of Living Smart is now coordinated by an independent, not-for-profit association – Be Living Smart Inc http://www.livingsmart.org.au
