This course is for anyone who would like to learn how to play guitar; no prior musical experience is necessary. Students will learn how to play simple melodies, starting with basic cords and progressing to different guitar styles such as finger picking, blues, jazz and classical.
Materials
- Your acoustic guitar
- Note book (preferably one which has staff lines),
- Pen and pencil
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will have:
- gained an understanding of plectrum and finger styles.
- learned basic reading of notation, tablature and chord diagrams.
- learned primary chords in Major and minor keys from popular songs.
- gained an understanding of melodies and their derivative Major or minor scales.
- gained an understanding of time signatures and rhythm (strumming) patterns.
- learned twelve bar blues progression and boogie patterns.
- learned bass notes and interesting variations.
