Learn to draw freehand sketches like architects do, simply and directly, using only pencil and paper. Sharpen and enhance your observational skills as you learn systematic line drawing, shading techniques and simple 2D and 3D perspective. Basic outline of course; handouts and examples; followed by systematic line drawing, shading techniques and simple 2D & 3D geometric shapes.
Topics include: 2D projection and perspective; observational skills and proportion; exercises in drawing simple real life objects; “drawing from the right side of the brain” (Betty Edwards classic book); composition and drawing slightly more complex shapes from nature; simplified drawing of buildings, structure and man-made things; Combining man-made and natural things (possible outside class weather permitting); and simple rendering techniques.
Materials
- A4 minimum or A3 drawing paper or sketchbook and HB or B grade drawing pencil, or clutch pencil equivalent.
- Optional: one fine tip coloured pental pen.
- Basic coloured pencils.
- Eraser and pencil sharpener as appropriate.
